Revising a chapter at home: how Schoolcanvas Learn works for students
Reading a chapter again is not the same as knowing it. Here is how Schoolcanvas Learn takes a student through one chapter, from the first video to the night before the test.
On this page
- One chapter, four steps: Learn, Practise, Exam, Revise
- Step 1: Learn, concept by concept
- Step 2: Practise only where you need to
- Stuck? Ask Guruji
- Step 3: the chapter exam
- Step 4: revise with a plan

- For parents: what you can see
- A simple routine for one chapter
- When can you start?
Most students revise the same way: open the textbook, read the chapter again, underline a few lines and hope it sticks. It feels like work, but it rarely shows what you don't know. The gaps only appear in the test, when it is too late to fix them.
Schoolcanvas Learn is a learning app built to change that. It is launching soon, for students in Class 3 to 12 following CBSE and ICSE, with JEE and NEET preparation for Class 11 and 12 students of any board. It comes from the same learning platform that schools use in the classroom as Assist.
This post walks through one chapter the way a student would use it at home. We will use CBSE Class 10 Science, Chapter 11: Electricity, as the example.
One chapter, four steps: Learn, Practise, Exam, Revise
Every chapter in Schoolcanvas Learn follows the same four steps. Each step opens the next, so you never just watch a chapter and forget it.
| Step | What you do | What it shows you |
|---|---|---|
| Learn | Watch short videos concept by concept, answer quick questions, read the notes, take the in-chapter quiz | Whether each idea made sense the first time |
| Practise | Take the chapter worksheet, then practise only your weak concepts | Exactly which concepts need more work |
| Exam | Take two timed chapter tests, one objective and one subjective | How ready you are, concept by concept |
| Revise | Follow your learning plan with mind maps, flashcards and formula sheets | What to go over before the school test |
Step 1: Learn, concept by concept
The Electricity chapter is broken into small concepts: electric current, potential difference, Ohm's law, resistance, resistors in series and parallel, the heating effect of current and electric power. Each one has a short animated video in English or Hinglish, so you can pick the language that helps you understand.
Quick questions appear during and after the videos, and notes sit alongside them. The content is aligned with NCERT, and where a concept depends on something from an earlier class, the app gives a short bridge first.
At the end of the lessons, the in-chapter quiz checks the whole chapter. There is no timer and no pressure.
Step 2: Practise only where you need to
This is the step that makes the biggest difference. A chapter worksheet checks every concept and shows which ones are weak. Say you are fine with current and potential difference, but you keep mixing up resistors in series and parallel.
Instead of practising the whole chapter again, the app gives you new questions only on that weak concept, round after round, never repeating a question, until you reach 80%. Practising what you already know feels good but changes nothing. Practice on the gap is where marks are won.
You can also choose your own practice: NCERT questions and solutions, previous-year questions, sample papers, and question types such as case-based and assertion-reason, so you get used to them early.
Stuck? Ask Guruji
Guruji is the AI learning buddy inside Schoolcanvas Learn. When you are stuck on a question, you can snap a photo of it, speak it or type it, in English or Hinglish.
Guruji does not just hand over the answer. You can ask for a hint first, then step-by-step help if you still need it. Answers link to the right minute of the right video, so you can watch the explanation again. Guruji can also check your own written working and show you the line where the mistake is, which is useful for long numericals on power and resistance.
Step 3: the chapter exam
Once you reach 80% in practice, the chapter exam opens. There are two timed tests:
- Objective test: MCQs and assertion-reason questions.
- Subjective test: very short, short, long and case-based answers.
For written answers, you can scan and upload your answer sheet. The answers are checked by AI and you get results and feedback quickly, without waiting for someone to mark them. The report shows each concept as strong, developing or weak.
Step 4: revise with a plan
After the exam, the app builds a learning plan from your results. It tells you what to revisit and in what order, instead of leaving you to read the whole chapter again.
For the night before the school test, there are before-exam tools: mind maps that put the chapter on one screen, flashcards, formula sheets, points to remember and the chapter in one shot.
For Class 11 and 12: JEE and NEET
Students preparing for JEE or NEET get test series in the exam pattern, with written answers checked by AI and the same question-wise and concept-wise analysis. This is open to Class 11 and 12 students of any board, including state boards.
For parents: what you can see
A parent can join when the student sends an invite. Parents see progress, test results and the learning plan, along with a weekly summary, a monthly report and simple tips on how to help at home. Chats with Guruji stay private to the student, so children can ask freely.
If your child's school uses Schoolcanvas, the app follows the school's chapter order and shows school test marks too.
A simple routine for one chapter
- On the day the chapter starts in school, watch that day's concept videos at home.
- When the class finishes the chapter, take the chapter worksheet.
- Do one or two weak-spot rounds a day until you reach 80%.
- Take the chapter exam on a weekend, when you have time.
- Follow the learning plan, and use the formula sheet and mind map the night before the school test.
When can you start?
